Build the whole stamp from four parts
Four elements, each optional, in any order you like — drag them to rearrange
and the preview updates as you drag.
- Bates number — prefix, zero-padded counter, suffix:
ABC-000123
- Free text — a confidentiality legend, a matter name, a party
- Date — six formats, including
2026-08-08, 08/08/2026 and 8 August 2026
- Page numbers —
Page 3 of 35 or 3/35
Join them on one line with a separator of your choice, or stack them as separate
lines with left, centre or right alignment.
Number only some pages without breaking the sequence
Every number is derived from the page’s real position in the source
document, not from its rank among the pages you happened to select. Stamp
only the odd pages and page 5 is still ABC-000005 and still reads
“Page 5 of 35” — the sequence has a gap, which is the truth, rather
than being silently compressed into ABC-000003.
That matters because a Bates number is a citation. A number that changes depending
on which subset was stamped is not an identifier.

Save a numbering scheme for the whole matter
A Bates scheme is usually stable for an entire matter — same prefix, same digit
count, same legend. Save it once by name and load it on every subsequent batch; only
the starting number changes.
Saved schemes keep the prefix, digits, suffix, legend text, date and page-number
formats, the order of the elements, and all the styling. They do not keep your
document, so the same scheme works across files.
Privileged documents that never leave your machine
Most online Bates tools require you to upload the document to a server. For material
under a protective order, or anything privileged, that upload is itself the problem
— you are handing a copy to a third party in order to stamp it.
This tool does not have an upload step. The PDF is opened, numbered and saved by
your own browser. There is no copy on any server, including ours, so there is
nothing to request the deletion of afterwards.
